The Nanatsu (七つ Nanatsu) are seven characters in the Keroro Gunso manga. They're essentially the Keroro manga's version of the Seven Nanas, the protagonists of Seven of Seven. In fact, Nanatsu introduces herself to Natsumi as Nana (奈々 Nana).

History[]

Nanatsu was a member of the Shinobi Village, although Koyuki didn't know her personally. She's a descendant of the Nanatsu clan and was considered a Jonin by the former Department of Ninja. After its dissolution, she continued active as a ninja, joining the Tairen Jissetsu, a group that aims to bring back the official Ninja department of the government. Although young, she became well known due to mastering the True Self Division technique, which allows the creation of complete and permanent physical copies of the user. In Nanatsu's case she has 6 perfect copies. However, in spite of being physically perfect, their personalities deviated from the original Nana, highlighting different sides of her character.

One day, when Natsumi Hinata had a school trip to Kyoto, the Keroro platoon followed her to the city, only to be targeted by the Tairen Jissetsu, with Nanatsu acting as their frontlines agent. They aimed to steal the Keron Star for an unknown goal. The seven Nanatsu managed to split the Keroro platoon, capture Natsumi and finally obtain the Keron Star. However, Kururu arrived soon afterwards, telling them their mission had been cancelled, after talking with the leader of the Tairen Jissetsu.

As soon as the battle was over, they were shown to be very friendly and immediately helped getting Natsumi back to her school group, before they noticed she had been missing.

Some time later, Keroro himself would beg them to help him executing the True Self Division art in order to help with one of his invasion plans, leading to the birth of Keroros themed after various countries around the world.[1] In the anime, which skipped Nana's introduction, Dororo himself helps Keroro with it.

Appearance[]

The Nanatsu are seven physically identical girls with short brown hair and dark eyes. They have hair highlights resembling maple leaves. They usually sport sailor type school uniforms, identical to Koyuki's, with blue shirts for colder months and white ones for summer. During Nana's talk with Natsumi, it's suggested she's in the third year of junior high, preparing for high school entrance exams, placing her around one year older than Natsumi and Koyuki.

Using the morphing ninja art Shichirenge, they transform into powered ninja forms, which are a mix of kunoichi outfits with the Nana Rangers from Seven of Seven. They sport colored helmets with two front horns and a heart emblem, a mask around their upper face similar to Koyuki's, alongside a leotard-like black Kimono with another heart emblem over their chests, fishnet tights, light armor over their arms and feet and long scarves.

Personalities[]

The Nanatsu in general seem to be genuinely friendly and helpful in spite of being elite ninja who want to topple Japan's current political order. The original Nana is the leader of their group of seven, and the others are based on the split Nana personalities from Seven of Seven, although with the more comedic aspects toned down. Nana acknowledges an upcoming entrance exam, but says that it's a much bigger problem for students from Tokyo, rather than Kyoto.

Although they aren't named in Keroro, aside from the main Nana, the names from Seven of Seven will be used to make it easier to differentiate them.

Nana[]

The original core of the True Self Division technique and leader of the Nanatsu. She motivates all the others even when they thought there was no more time to take Natsumi back to her school group. Later, she also complains about the other Nanatsu getting moved by a begging Keroro to teach him their secret technique.

Nanappe[]

Nanatsu vol18 c153 03 Nanappe

A combat focused Nanatsu who can always be seen with aggressive eyes like Dark Momoka's, making it easy to differentiate her from the others. She distracted Giroro by competing with him in archery while the other Nanatsu acted.

Nanakko[]

Nanatsu vol18 c153 06 Nanakko

A laid-back Nanatsu who could tell she was going to steal Keroro's Keron Star while keeping a smile. She confronted Koyuki alongside Nanarin. When Nana complained with the others about them teaching Keroro their technique, she can be seen in the background eating alongside Nanacchi, while disregarding the situation. In that later appearance, she can be seen with a relaxed expression and a cat mouth similar to her Seven of Seven counterpart.

Nanacchi[]

Nanatsu vol18 c153 02 Nanacchi

A happy Nanatsu who always has a smile. She distracts Tamama by buying food for him, hanging out together for a while in a friendly way. When Nana complained with the others about them teaching Keroro their technique, she can be seen in the background eating alongside Nanakko while disregarding the situation.

Nanarin[]

Nanatsu vol18 c153 07 Nanarin

A sensitive and manipulative Nanatsu. She boasts about her skills to Koyuki and with a smile points to a captured Natsumi, threatening her in exchange for the Keron Star. However, later on, when Keroro begs her to teach him their secret technique, she goes along with it, getting complaints from Nana. She is generally drawn with larger irises than the other Nanatsu. The original Seven of Seven Nanarin was sensitive, but a crybaby, making her notably different from her Keroro counterpart, unlike all other Nanatsu.

Nanasama[]

Nanatsu vol18 c153 08 Nanasama

A scheming Nanatsu, who threatened Natsumi's life in exchange for the Keron Star. She can easily be differentiated from the others because she is the only Nanatsu who wears glasses. However, later, she is one of the Nanatsu who falls for Keroro's begging and teaches him their secret technique.

Nanapon[]

Nanatsu vol18 c153 01 Nanapon

A haunting Nanatsu, who is skilled enough to leave Dororo completely helpless through suggestion techniques, making him wander aimlessly through a trap building. The original Nanapon from Seven of Seven was more focused on romance, but she also had a haunting side, earning her the nickname Ghostly Nana.

Abilities[]

Nanatsu is said to have accomplished several high level missions in spite of her young age. Koyuki regards two of the Nanatsu as completely beyond her level and one of them was even able to keep Dororo out of combat.

  • True Self Division - A high level ninja technique which allows the creation of complete permanent physical copies of the user, with all their skill and knowledge. The number of copies created apparently depends on the user's skill and talent. They're able to act as one resulting in combat ability even higher than just adding up the user's power several times. However, the personality of the copies deviates from the original, giving them all individuality, although this doesn't seem to hurt their coordination. In Volume 18, it's said that this technique is actually done by training quintuplets and twins from birth to resemble and coordinate with each other, rather than a mystical technique. However, the original text notes that it's just a guess and in volume 21, upon seeing Keroro's use of the technique, Dororo claims that it has no rational explanation and must be true ninja magic.
  • House of Nanatsu Morphing Ninja Art Shichi Renge - A transformation tecnique used by the Nanatsu that instantly gives them a combat form in their custom ninja gear. Their power is amplified when fighting together, although they weren't seen in battle using this form. In this form, they're able to fly at high speeds.
  • Hypnosis and suggestion - An ability used by several of the Nanatsu. They were able to leave Natsumi unconscious without touching her, with constant suggestions kept Dororo lost in a building and they were even able to take over Koyuki's mind, using her to approach Keroro.

Relationships[]

  • Namumu - Leader of the Tairen Jissetsu who gave the orders to Nanatsu. They seem extremely loyal to him, stopping their operation as soon as new orders arrived. He uses a human form that looks identical to Nana's grandfather in Seven of Seven.
  • Tairen Jissetsu - In spite of their fame, other members of the Tairen Jissetsu seem to regard the Nanatsu as too young, and blame the change of plans on her possibly making a mistake.
  • Keroro - The target of the mission they thought would lead to the birth of a ninja era. However, after that failed, they were friendly enough they taught him their secret technique after he begged them for help.
